Familiar
Created in 4 days for the GameDevRocket jam, with the theme of an unexpected twist! All assets (except the music because I didn't have time) / art / programming by me, a solo developer.
Needs polishing, but I only had 4 days! (Note, I've played it through so there are no bugs that will prevent you getting to the end!) Some code dissected from another project of mine to help speed up the process (ended up reworking a fair bit of it so I'm not sure if it quickened things or slowed me down!)
--For some reason the jump animation doesn't work and the jumping is a little clunky but didn't have time to work out the problem despite trying ;P
Play as a witch's familiar trying to find out what happened to her master.
Move: A & D
Jump: W
Interact/move text forward: Enter/Return key
All art, design, programming etc (c) ceprotypes

This was pretty good, even though the cutsceens removed my ability to move untill I went through it again. Also next time you make something like this, you should try to help guide the player to the solution a little more, I felt quite lost for a lot of the gameplay
i think this might be the best game
Aww thank you :)
Loved the art and the story. I would really enjoy a full length game like this (with the bugs ironed out :-)
Thank you very much! I'll definitely think about extending it (maybe add a few of those extra puzzles I didn't have time for).
Did you make it to the end? :3
The art and animations are really nice. I like the vibe and the color scheme of the game a lot. After collecting all of the potions, I wasn't able to do anything with them, so there might be an issue there with the cauldron check if you have all potions or something, but other than that, I love the game.
If it was just me who wasn't able to figure out something in particular, that's my bad, you can tell me what I got wrong if the game is actually beatable.
Yep, the game is beatable. Tip: The potions are not for the cauldron! Explore, pay attention to the narrative as it gives clues, jump on things, and be sure to report back to Orph to progress the story ^^
Thanks for the feedback!!
Just remember, lots of things are jumpable, even if you may not think about it. I was stuck for a while too, until I jumped on something I missed.
Nice hint! xP
Amazing art! You really have a talent for it.
I got stuck (got the key, opened the chest, and got the potion bottle). But wasn't able to figure out what to do from there.
Regardless- amazing work!
If you are interested in making your own music too, here are some resources I used to learn how. (Learning took a while, but now I can create a full song in about an hour or two).
I learned how to use Reaper to create music by following these videos:
- Reaper 101 and Another one (used both to learn the software)
- How to write a base, melody, and counter melody
- How to use a cord progression throughout a song
- Cord Progression Tips
- How to isolate frequencies so you can hear the drums, base, melody, etc.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the compliment on the art! (The only hint I can give after that is explore, jump around a bit, and look to gain knowledge. Also be sure to report back to Orph as you have to do that to progress).
Actually I have created my own music for previous projects, I just didn't have time and didn't want total silence. thanks for the links though (I generally use midi so I'll still be taking a look at those) ;P
This is so great!! The art is wonderful and stylized. Amazing job <3
Thank you very much! :)
